Exhaust Pipe Ticking
Don Regan
Member Posts: 43
I'm working with a contractor here in Wisconsin that has two seperate installs. One of a Peerless 80K BTU and one with a Munchkin 140. On both systems, the exhaust pipe makes a load ticking sound on heat up & cool down. We can't seam to make this go away. We need fresh ideas.
Thanks, Don

expansion and contraction
check your hangers sounds like simple expansion and contraction0 -
Did that..
we replaced them, moved them, hung the pipe with panty hose. (temporarily of course).0 -
Any other thoughts on the subject???
Can the pipe alone be making that noise??? On two different installs by two different installing contractors?0 -
check the holes through the side of the house, could be drilled too tightly

I will...
check this out and let you know. Great Idea. These are both ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes with 9" thick walls.0 -
Did they fill holes with water plug cement? That could be putting too much pressure on pipe and not allowing expansion and contraction.0 -
More than...
likely this is the case. I will post the result.
