My young Daniel Boone is at it again
Matthew was begging all day to get off work early Tuesday because there was a North wind that was perfect for one of his bow stands. I guess he was right. He called me just before 7PM, so excited he hardly made sense. I don't know if it was his teeth chattering or the bow clanking on the tree stand or what, but his cell phone sounded like it had a jackhammer in it.
It went something like this. DAD!!......... I shot a big one!!! DAD!..........get Andy and help me track him. ......clank clank chatter chatter............. Dad! he's huge.......he was only 15 yards away wrecking a tree and chasing some does clank clank....... bash....... clank OH MY GOSH DAD I know he's down I heard him fall I heard him fall I heard him fall............... clank bash bash.............
About that time I told him to hush and sit tight until he calmed down lest he fall clean out of the tree stand. The buck weighed 186# field dressed so live weight would be 220-230. That's a monster for these parts. He's 16 1/2" inside the rack with 9 points.
I gotta do something about this.............Drew has two dandy bucks mounted and hanging in the entry. This will make two for Matt..........and how many does the old man have?? Zip, Zero, None!!!! Something's not right here.0 -
That is Awesome!!!
Steve, That made my night. Congrats to your boy!! I thought I would take a quick peek at the Wall before I went to sleep. Anthony and myself are leaving at 4am this morning to go up to Northern Maine deer hunting for a whole glorious week. Try to play some catch-up for missing all of hunting season last year when I was in Iraq. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET UP THERE!!!!!!!!!! Oxbow Maine, here we come. I hope we can post a picture like that beauty your boy shot!! Thanks for posting.
P.S. Steve, you better not get the "Bark Eater Award" this year!!

GADZOOKS!
AWESOME BUCK!
Congrats to "young Daniel Boone"!!!!
My bow season has been going like Charlie Brown's trick or treating, "All I got was a rock..."
I drove through deer central today when I went to visit with Tony Hilliard. Nearly drove off the road a couple times twisting my head to see HERDS of deer.
Again, Matthew did heck of a job with that one.
He has a heck of a teacher.

That's a beauty !!!
WOW ! What I'd give to have a crack at that !
Of course, like you, I'm always working
Yesterday, when Mark Hunt was here, it was a little brisk but clear and beautiful. We were doing the Wilo Brain Box thing and BSing about the trade.
Today is looking like a repeat and I've got at least 6 no heats already....
Our deer herd was decimated by the logging industry, then the oil industry, in the 1800's. In the late 30's-early 40's a few local oil producers/sportsmen got together and imported deer from Michigan with their own money. Thirty years ago they issued "party permits" that let 4 men share a doe tag. Now, it's not uncommon for 1 man to get 2 permits. That's in addition to bow and muzzleloader tags.
Your son's buck is very similar in rack formation to one's found here0 -

Very nice buck!
Congrats!...My youngest daughter's boyfriend was out squirrel hunting last weekend, bagged a 25 lb. gobbler!. Shot him with a .22. Wish I had pics, but will get to eat it on T-day. Enjoy the backstrap!...mfm0
