End of line traps and vents
Joe Jesse
Member Posts: 2
My three story steam system has three return lines. Two have a steam trap, Turnstall TX2100, and one return line has no trap. All three have air vents. They all drop down into a manifold and empty into the Hartford Loop just below the water line. This has been in use for many years. All the radiator traps are new. Is this set up ok and efficient? Thanks in advance for any info.

Hartford Loop
Now remember I was born after the introduction of steam traps, however the Hartford Loop is acting as the steam trap on the untrapped line. The other lines were probaly added later or were problematic heat or noise wise.

I bet
the two returns with the traps come from the steam mains, and the one without a trap is the dry return from the radiators.
This is probably a Webster system, and is one of their standard set-ups.

End o line vents
Thanks for the help. The untrapped line has a lot more air venting. Is this normal? I'm still trying to remove the steam traps on the two lines. This may change the results.
Thanks again. Joe Jesse0
