cast or malleable

BM fittings a tad more expensive than CI. We also found the extra thick CI fittings had little to no chance of "flex."
The iron fittings are also less impacted by the water and O2 than CI - rust and corrosion-wise. Having replaced many old steamers, we found BM fittings rarely used, but when in place (usually a leak repair from more recent times) nearly closed with rust and scale after time. Not that CI doesn't rust as well, but the rate of corrosion sems very much to favor the less "active" CI over BM.
Having been in the biz for over 30 years, we also had the honor of replacing steamers we initially installed/replaced 30+ years ago. Thank god we never used BM fittings! We'd still be there sawzalling ells and tees.
Steam and CI were meant for each other IMO.

I know that Gas requires malleable but can cast or malleable fitting be used for Steam?0 -
On Steam
either is fine, if your a traditionalist go with cast but malleable is fine.0 -
cast or steam
the only real reason for cast iron on steam is the ease of busting it out later. Malleable is fine...just use teflon tape and pipe dope if you plan to ever have to take it apart.

Cast iron fittings look much better and can be cracked with a hammer down the road0
