Well, we all remember this mess. I cleaned the HX's and placed foil around the draft hoods as I tested, and this is what I got. Some 9" Field MG-1 barometric dampers are on order...I should say that these reading were taken while all 3 units were firing. I consulted Laars on the far boiler, and no further action is necessary on that unit.

Stay busy, Tim

    venting?

Looks like that smaller boiler off to the side should at least be entering the breeching about the huge manifold. Does it meet the 7X rule?

Is this chimney lined? What size/ ht flue?

Can you show a pic of what you did with the foil at the draft hoods?
    Thx,
    Bob

You put in some hours don't you?... 4 am on one and 11 pm on the other.

And the date's only 5 years off. :)

I guess I can reset the time & date display. I left the batteries out too long. As for the foil, I just wrapped it around the open portion of the draft hood until the O2 reading was around 9% and watched the other numbers fall into place. (I'll get a pic tomorrow) The Vent is the original unlined 3X4 or so masonry vent, and goes up 3 stories above the basement. The samll boiler (Laars) has had it's draft hood shortened by some genius to make it fit, but Laars does not think it needs further adjustments with a baro damper. I did clean it's HX and vent, though.

Just glad I test and was able to catch this. That right boiler was really having problems even though it looked and sounded fine...and had a pretty, blue flame...

    Clocks

Just like a bloomin' VCR clock. Always wrong or always flashing.

I've always wondered why, in this day and age, the manufacturers don't incorporate an automatic clock in these instruments. My digital weather station gets a time/date signal from the atomic clock. Why can't a device that costs 4x as much?

Timco, what's up with the primary air temp and wouldn't that amount a difference drastically change the efficiency calculation and draft?

I restarted my unit after testing to be sure the CO was correct...it did not zero completely after testing the highest CO unit. That's the difference. The probe was still hot from the last test. I'm not too concerned with the efficiency numbers until the final changes have been made to the vents and such, then I will re-take all tests with the correct boiler room temps taken prior to each test. Would the pri air temp reading effect the draft numbers? The manometer reads very accurately and I zero it prior to each test...

    Hi Tim

What I tell folks is the SSE reading is like the mpg rating on an automobile - it's not info I use as a mechanic.

All you need to pay attention to is the O2, CO air free and stack temp.

SSE (and stack temp) are good tools for selling equipment and growing your business...
  • Tim did you get

    my e-mail about the installation?

    clocks

The US PBS stations used to embed a clock signal into their broadcast signals. However with many people using a cable box and not hooking the VCR directly to the broadcast signal, the VCRs can't see that clock signal anymore.

More useless excrement leaking out of my brain.
