Steam boiler trim.

The last steam boiler I replaced I used the McDoonald-Miller #67 low water cut off with a #101A feeder. It worked just fine. But I see a lot of # 47's around too. Any thoughts on which is a better one to use on a small 125,000 Btu gas fired boiler? The last boiler I used was a Peerless. Again, it worked fine but maybe a little pricey.
Ok, check my numbers- Connected load is 219 sq. ft. Multiply by 1.5 pick up factor and multiply by 240 to get the total Btu's needed of 79000. At this altitude I divide by .67 to get my input Btu's. That accounts for a boiler that is about 84% efficient and about 20% for my altitude of 5280. I come up with a boiler needed of 118,000 Btu's. Is there anything I am missing?

Yes
the pickup factor is already included in the Net and EDR ratings. No need to re-figure it unless you have a lot of bare piping, oversized piping or something similar. The only thing to re-figure is to compensate for the altitude.
For residential use, we prefer probe-type LWCO units. This is because people forget to blow the float-type units down, causing them to fail. We also like Hydrolevel VXT water feeders, as these have a counter that tells how much water has been fed. If the numbers start going up more then twice a month or so, we know there's a leak somewhere.

I always thought the probe type were prone to failure because the probes get dirty. It sounds like that may be the case if you use them a lot.
What boiler do you like to use?

For oil-fired steam
there's only one: Burnham's Mega-Steam.
For gas, we're getting away from atmospheric. We're doing our first Smith G8, which is their 8 series oil boiler with a factory-supplied Carlin EZ-Gas burner. Watch the Wall for pics.
Both of these boilers come with probe LWCO units.
Now if Burnham gets a gas option for the Mega-Steam, we'll use it.
