in a closed loop hydronic with the exp tank on the suction side of the pump would not the pump differential be eliminated by the tank trying to keep its point of no pressure change? mark eatherton i talked to you last year from cleveland still having trouble with that heater can you e mail me with a telephone # smore01 at msn.com i"d like to ask you a couple of questions if i can larry

    If that were the case the pump would not move the water. Delta "P" is key here. All the diff would be seen on the discharge of the pump and suction side would be 12 psi. Move the pump to the middle of a loop and see the the diff as half on the discharge and the other suction side would give you the the other half of the pump performance. Put the pump pumping at the tank and you would see ALL the Diff at the suction side. 12 psi on discharge and its diff all would be seen at the suction....... A great book explaining this is called "Pumping Away" I hope I addressed that correctly.......:-)
