Thanks to all who responded to my question. After getting nowhere with the heating contractor, I called the manufacturers representative for the RB-24 LWCO unit. A BIG thanks to Rick Rolston and Kenny Starzee at Wallace Eannace Associates, Inc. Rick came to my house the same day I spoke with him and resolved the problem in short order. It turned out to be pipe-dope contamination of the sensor probe and a lack of proper installation. Rick installed a brand new RB-24 and wired it into the boiler. Good to go!!!! Thanks fellas, your the best!!!!!! Roland

    Nice support!

The contractor is completely at fault here and I understand the reps motivation in wanting to make it right, but should an unlicensed manufacturer's rep be doing work without the contractor present?

One could debate that different ways

Obviously the rep knew more about it than the contractor did and cared about it enough to make it right. As far as the consumer is concerned, all is well regardless of who did the work. Maybe the rep will get in touch with the contractor and offer to get him or his staff trained appropriately. Here's hopin'.

  • Bob - That is a great question and one I ask myself often. Most contractors want to be there and learn what happened to make an install have problems.

Sometimes however, you have to go on the job without waiting for the contractor in order to resolve an urgent problem. It's damn uncomfortable knowing that the contractor ought to be the one doing the work. It isn't that we don't mind doing the work, but we are unlicensed and shouldn't be putting our hands on equipment.

Every time I go on a job where the contractor fails to show up I swear that I'l never do it again; but then I see an owner in trouble and I break my own rule.

    Guess I'm not too smart.

    Don

that was my point, the shame is the contractor is the responsible party and should be doing this, very rarely should a rep have to make an on-site visit.I'd be embarrassed to ask a rep to look at something I could and should solve myself.

    Desperate Times-Desperate Measures

I wasn't happy that the contractor(who cashed my check)wouldn't step-up and fix this problem. Or, at the very least, be present when the repair was done. I can't rely on someone who won't back-up his own work. He makes lots of money for himself and the local gas utility doing oil/gas conversions. I suspect that it might be a long, cold wait if something goes bad in the system he installed. Better to get someone trust-worthy. I looked at the Find A Contractor section but I am not familiar with these folks. Anyone care to recommend a contractor? I live in Baldwin, N.Y. 11510. You can always e-mail if you don't want to post here.
