Retrofit gas boiler with direct vent kit

Hello-

Just had a chimney guy here.....looked at lining the flue where the gas-fired hot water boiler vents....because of: 1) the configuration of fireplace fire box; 2) the fact that the flue just above the current boiler vent is shaped like a triangle; and 3) the fact that hot water pipes for the radiator run up beside the chimney and would have to be taken out of service while the chimney was opened up so the encraoching bricks could be cut away to make room for the liner . . . it seems my best (cheapest by about $1800+) option is to retrofit the boiler (gas-fired, hot water Burnham boiler about 164,000 BTUs...boiler is about 8 years old) with a direct vent kit. Hope you could follow this description. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

    Money ....

.....always dictates whether to install a direct vent unit or not . But I prefer a chimney hands down .
