myson toe kick convectors

it's not a cast iron radiator it's the old style 50"s in the wall hotwater basebaseboard. one contractor who came by said forget about that and install an 8 foot section of high output baseboard. will that work better? I'm removing a wall with a 4ft radior as described above in my kitchen and a smaller 2 ft radiator in my dining are. the toal oen area with one wall of brand new 6ft sliders will be 11x16. the contractor says the 8ft ho will be fine. he says its not the stuff you buy at the depot.
last thing i want is a cold kitchen. I figured the toe kick heater would be like an insurance policy. and from past experience I know it's not wise to cut out radiators from the mono flow system because of how they are designed.

    toe kick heaters

I'm remodeling my kitchen and I will be removing a hot water radiator and swap it with a myson toe kick convector radiator with a blower. I plan to keep the toe kick radiator on the existing mono flow system.

with the wall down the total room size is 10x16.

i'm looking at the myson wispa II 9000. It's output is 10,431 btu per hr.

How well do these work? is that large enough to heat that area? do you always need to have the blower on to get heat?

    Yes they work well

without the fan it will be little more than an foot warmer, just like the radiator in your car with a fan they dis[ate heat well.

Be very careful. Heating disasters often begin with "removing a cast iron radiator in the kitchen".

Kickspace heaters will have far more head loss (restriction to flow) than an iron radiator which has essentially zero. Too much restriction and you'll get little or no heat. Sometimes using two monoflow fittings will help, but sometimes not. There's also a potential problem with available supply temperature. If your home has seen much thermal improvement (or if the original design was quite generous with the radiation), the available supply temp may not be sufficient for the toekick in all but the coldest weather. "Low-temp" operating kits are available for the Myson, but it is far from unheard that the available temp is still too low.

Beyond all of this, there is the general incompatibility between cast iron radiators and kick-space heaters. Cast iron radiators continue to give off heat LONG after the boiler stops firing and the circulator stops circulating. The kickspace however will stop giving off usable heat almost immediately after circulation stops.

The kickspace can be installed as a separate zone with its own circulator and ability to fire the boiler, but be aware that this will result in very inefficient operation of the boiler as it will be forced to cycle very frequently unless the rest of the house is also calling for heat.

If this is DIY, I'd say your chances of simply replacing the iron rad with a kickspace and getting anywhere near desirable operation are extremely slim. Nearly anything can be done with hydronics, but the more difficult the situation the more it costs...

My best advice is to work the radiator into your renovation design.

    toe kick heater

Heed the warning above, you most likely will bein for a very cold kitchen unless th kick heater is zoned separately....any possibly of putting a radiant zone in the floor during this renovation?

After losing out on bid reagrding telling customers to keep the standing cast iron or cast iron baseboard radiator in remodeled kitchen to those toe kick heaters.. I've asked them how did they "like" the toe kick heater... Here's some of the answers, its too noisey, the heat in the room is not the same, how the hell can you clean the unit? ( esp if you have dogs and cats). Dropped foods find its way into the unit and become bugs/mice haven... Then they said that they should've gone my way... Yet, won't because they already spent too much and won't give up the guilts... Sosdd...
