to check the amp draw on a call for heat, thats what you set the anticipator for.

Carefull. The wrong setting and you can burn out that old gold unit.

    Anticipator

We recently completed a boiler replacement and the Owner wanted to keep his old Gold Dial Honeywell thermostat. Since the replacement he has changed the anticipator setting a couple of times trying to dial it in. Unfortunately this is the main (only) thermostat in a three level home. In addition I was unsuccessful when I proposed individual TRV's.

My question is: What is the appropriate setting for a cast iron radiator system?

    Thanks in advance.

the heat anticipator has little to do with the radiation type, usually it is set on the amperage draw of the relay or gas valve its controlling.

Jim is correct. it should be set to the total amp draw of every thing that draws amps during the start up.

    anticipator setting

Just a note, most current boilers I find will need a setting of appx .6 to .7 amps on the heat anticipator. This is usually the amp draws I am finding on EI ignition systems. Just appx but will get you in the ballpark.

Ah, but the primary on an oil fired unit is usually set at .4

He didn't say if it was oil or gas.

    Thanks

I will use a meter to dial it in so that we do not create more issues with Ol' Goldie Round Dial. The system is nat. gas as oil is generally uncommon here.

Thank you to everyone's response and input. I greatly appreciate it.

    Take care,
    Jim
