Insulating Steam Pipes with fiberglass insulation

I have a one-pipe steam system with about 10% of the mains uninsulated. Reading "We Got Steam Heat", it says it's ok to insulate the pipes with fiberglass insulation and duct tape. I have R-13 faced insulation. Is this ok to do the job? Does it matter if its faced or unfaced insulation?

Both OK
I've used faced fiberglass insulation and it worked fine. R-13 is even better than the R-11 that I used. So it should do an even better job. I noticed a significant heat savings after wrapping the pipes with the fiberglass insulation. It's a little labor intensive but the cost savings is significant. Good luck.0 -
This is a fiberglass insulated 3" riser comming up off an uninsulated 3" main. This says it all...
