A picture of the near boiler piping will help...one zone? What emitters do you have downstairs? And up?
Just a guy running some pipes.

basement too hot
I went to a plumbing supply co. asking for help with an old boiler. I brought pictures and the guy there said it wouldn't be worth fixing. He told me if I was handy (which I am) I could install a new one myself. He sold me a boiler and all the "stuff" that goes with it and a diagram he drew up himself. I followed his instructions exactly and everything seemed to work fine. The only problem I'm having is that my basement gets up to 77 degrees when the upstairs heat kicks on. What do I need to do?
Thanks

At a minimum, you have to insulate the piping, starting first with the supply piping and then, if it remains too hot do the return piping as well.
If that is your only problem, you are good to go.0
