lack of service call voids warranty?

Thanks for the replies. It could have been worse. Only about $275. I don't mind needing the service calls, I just wish that he had clearly spelled it out at the time of installation, or had his office call me in the fall to ask me if I wanted the service. good follow up makes for happy customers and profit.

    Warranty voided?

I had a new peerless steam boiler installed three years ago. This year it wouldn't fire, so I called the installer. He need to replace a sensor and says my warranty is void because I haven't had a service plan in place. He never mentioned this when installing the system, and I feel a little ripped off. Is this normal practice?
By the way, I own and have read several books from this site. I truly have benefited from them. Thanks

The installer's response sounds a bit short. Maybe he meant that a service plan would have covered this part. But read your warranty card carefully. What sensor? Many parts have only a one year warranty even if the cast iron block has a lifetime warranty.
