It's Loctite #55 IIRC. Much easier to use and neater than hemp.

The old standby pipe sealant "Expando", you have to let it set but it works great!

You can use simple hemp twine and untwist. Here's one web source. There are hundreds. You can usually find it at good garden centers as well.

I believe that traditional Oakum using hemp and resin is still available at plumbing houses--at least it is at one here in town. I found Oakum used as a sort of caulk around the basement windows in my 100+ year-old house. Due to position behind external trim I have to believe it's original. Still in perfect condition and doing its job.
