Oil Heat Cares continues to do great things within our communities one such project began over a year ago in Lewiston, Maine. It was a major undertaking and it involved working with the community and plenty of layers. The Root Cellar serves many in the community. Evidently this area has a large population of legal immigrants and this facility helps them assimilate into our society. The project was spearheaded by Robert OConnor of the Pine Tree Chapter along with many volunteers from this chapter. They were adding radiant to the basement that was used as a gymnasium. It truly was a very ambitious undertaking. Periodically I would contact Robert for an update and I could tell he was frustrated by the progress not the progress of the generous volunteers but the bureaucracy of just trying to get the project completed.
By now I am sure that you are aware that Robert passed away suddenly on August 21st at the age of 45. The chapter is continuing forward with the Root Cellar.
I am sharing this story with you just in case anyone is planning a visit to Maine over the week-end or lives by the chapter is calling for volunteers to help on Saturday, October 13th. If you can lend a hand, contact Barry Austin (207)225-3000 or Al Letellier 207-767-8080 or simply respond with an e-mail and Ill get the information to the chapter.
