selling up

One supply house will have PAP but no fittings, the next one will have fittings but no tools, etc; etc. When you go back to look in the bins, nothing but dust. When you finally get geared up and running, the maker pulls it off the market. Copper still looking real good in these parts.

I'm just wondering about the old promblem of selling jobs up or selling them down as for equiptment and heat emmitters ,the reason being the last few jobs i have looked at which where total reonavation who's heating systems where totally hacked by home owner who wanted every square inch livable and finished and in doing so removed all the main trunck lines threw in all flex then procecced to frame and sheet rock and squeze all this flex to the point of no air flow niether the heating nor cooling do anything now withthe rising coast of natural gas and electric and a big 2 nd floor renovation (just for a bath room and closet )they are in the market for a real working heating and cooling system the promblem is they don't want baseboard and after pricing panel rads ,mainfolds and all the neccesary equiptment it's a big price tag .They are also getting a/c and from the looks of it it will be a unico 3 ton system and yes i know i can do hydro air except i'm not a big fan of a hot water coil sitting in the attic and i know freeze stat and all that good stuiff but as for comfort i know that pan rads or even baseboard would supply more comfort then a air based system as for letting the HO decide well they have froze and sweat there butts off for the past 5 years amd now they have to you know what or get off the pot but they are about as clueless as i don't know .Also from my view point panel rads are the better as for install time and opiotions but do you believe they are less time comsuming then a base board system ,also how about some pex al pex opions in my area we have wisbro and a few others but when asking salemen about pex al pex it's a no go no one wants to hear anything and no one stocks it i get that der in the head lights look i guess i've waited over 10 years for the products i saw in germany in 98 to hit my sales market (supply houses)and i guess it will be another ten till i see pex al pex being sold is it me or is this every where and do any of you skip the supply houses and deal with mail ordewr pex peace and good luck clammy

Just about quit trying to sell up or down

I have found most H.O.'s drain me for the education then go with the lowest price. Also once the job is hacked they B & M about what was done but do not want to pay to have it fixed.

We have told several people that wanted our expertise that they would have to pay for our time and have had no takers.

I do not mind spending time with existing accounts but no way do I want to do a day of engineering for some one that said my old plumber said this my neighbers plumber said that and the box store wants to do this.

What I do now is give a referral to an engineer that gets paid to put a plan together.

    ?

    I'm just a little offended
    To go on record:
Home Depot does not sell or install HVAC Equipment, water heaters not included. But water heaters can be purchased almost everywhere- Sams, BJ's, Costco, Sears, Ace, .......
The displays you see and the people standing at them are lead generators. The Trane equipment is installed by Trane Dealers in your respective areas and the majority are recognized Comfort Specialists. Of course HD gets their 25% cut and it can be billed on thier HD card for convienience.
Remember Sears did this for many years and still does capturing a market that would shop at Sears for everything (Western/farmer/grandfathers attitude). One big difference is the quality many times between Sears & HD, HD uses Trane dealers, Sears uses the lowest contract installers.

My statement to HD was not HVAC specific

it was up sell in general and they do kitchen installs in my area. Have had several of my accounts hire HD, found they had to pay us to fix the installs and be paid back by HD.

Allot of the work had no permits and in some cases plumbing was done by unlicensed people. Don't know how many times I have gone to an existing account to find a new kitchen and the HO said ya there price was low and thought that I could not go wrong with a name brand but I will not do it again.
