PEX in cold air return?

Is this a "panned" return using the joist bay as a duct? You might run out of space by the time you get all the insulation in the bay tokeep the return air from taking all the heat out of the pex.

PEX radiant tube in cold air return?
I am doing a staple up radiant heat project in a residential home with Wirsbo 1/2 PEX to heat just the slate floor to warm the owners toes. This home also has forced air. Any ideas on running the PEX through the cold air return in between the joists, and then insulating under it? You guys are the best!
Thanks,Jim0 -
Pex in joist-liner?
it may work, but make sure you insulate well.
Why are you doing two systems?, for AC?

When We.....
Ran into this problem in commercial work we always sleeved the ductwork first (sizing the sleeve for both the pipe and it's insulating jacket. This creates easier access for removal, expansion and better air flow around it (within the duct)
This was always the engineer's recommendation when we encountered this problem.
