Time to Start Digging Out those old Loonies

Shame on the Mortgage Brokers and Realtors that took advantage of those who shouldn't/couldn't afford their homes. True, shame on the uniformed consumer who was led to believe that they could afford more than they really could afford, but if/when those mortgages go belly up, the Mortgage Broker/Realtors still made their commosions, plus they have a shot at selling the house again and making more!
Too many less than honorable people out there in this day and age.

Finally, Canadian Dollars equal USD
I will have to go dig out those old Loonies and cash them in. Good news for our friends up north.

The Loonie and dollar are on Par,
Gold is up, oil is at an all time hi per barrel.
American car companies are on the rim, ready to
fall into the bowl.
Sounds like the late 1970's.There was an error rendering this rich post.

We are all circling the drain
The Mortgage Brokers and Realtors are happy school started; they are fighting over popcorn-maker jobs at the cinema.0 -

It is good news
for us Canucks - we now will pay a fair price for our winter vacation in Arizona (not sure why "she who makes the rules" books vacation in my busiest times - but ...) but the real news re dollar parity and value is who stands to gain/lose re this whole black gold dollar debate. China holds 1.3 trillion USD in reserve (largest reserve in the world) - its a cash hog based on current trade deficits. And some economists predict the Euro will be the world currency within a few years - not based on oil bucks like the Canadian loonie (great name don't you think?) but on green bucks and energy conservation policies. I thought that was a novel idea! And the real winner is Canadian pro sports - who collect loonies at the gate - but pay the sports professionals in USD. Some of our hockey teams may even turn a profit this year!!!0 -
I live 10 miles from the border and you can see the impact on the exchange rate and economic boom up north. It used to be that we went north to buy stuff. Now they are coming here and buying up vacation homes. The cost of land has increased from about $5,000 an acre to $20,000+. We have two golf courses being built that are targeting Canadian customers.0 -
US-CA Border in WNY
I hear you joe, I'm in the same boat. I live right on the niagara river in western NY. I have a fantastic view of Canada and great fishing! After years of benefiting from a favorable conversion rate and cheap Canadian lumber prices the tide has turned.
Last night it took my canadian GF an hour to cross the bridge (lewiston-queenston) to her home (usually take's 10 minutes). They pulled over ever car trying to find people evading duty. The canadians are shopping a ton over here (good for US)! Our economy in this part of western NY can really use the boost.
I took my kids to get their physicals before school started and besides staff, my car was the only US license plate in the parking lot. "Medical tourism" has been booming here for years.
We're also feeling the same effects on real-estate.
The tide will turn as it always does. Enjoy the exchange rate while you can. My guess is that you'll have a year or two to enjoy the rate.
Can Canadian heating pro's do installations in New York? I live in a rural area and I haven't been able to find any US heating pro's up to the level of you folks on the wall. And I've been searching a long time! I'd really like to hear from anyone in my vicinity.
