Clean it!
1 cup of TSP per 100MBTU's. Bring it to a hair before steaming, dump it, rinse with clean water, skim until clear.
Done.
Note to self: "always blow down the LWCO WHILE it's under pressure"!

I have a friend with a WM oil fired steam boiler with a tankless coil for DHW. This particular set-up comes with a MM LWC. When the ball valve on the lowest nipple off this LWC is opened it release black water with some oil residue on top of the samples. What is the blackwater all about? No recent pipes have been replaced and it could be that it was never skimmed properly years ago.0
