I've done it before. Need to do it again for a temporary set up. (rental, so don't want to plunk down the money for the real thing, have a heat exchanger, a couple bronze circs, and an aquastat already so minimal cost)
Thanks to a total brain fart I cannot remember how I piped it. Seems like I ran my supply into the hot water outlet (with a tee) and brought the return out of the drain. Does that make sense?
Of course, I would use check valves, etc.
