    Electric heat vs oil

I am thinking about removing my electric heat, the contractor wants to install a buderus g115/21 and a s120 water storage tank with a 5" ss outside chimney, currently i spend about $400 a month on elctricity for a 12 month period (heat and 40 gallon electric hw) the house is 1008 square foot ranch with a basement and a family of four. What will i burn in oil a year?

You need to supply more info...

What are your electric rates? How much does oil cost there? How much of your electric bill is purely for heating? You'd have to compare and factor that using kWh consumption for different months.

Did the contractor estimate your savings? What heatloss did the contractor come up with?

    There's

41KW per gallon of oil.Multiply your KW rate times 41 for the equivalent in fuel oil.Electric is approx 20c a KW on LI or the equivalent of $8.20 a gallon.Subtract 15% for efficiency differences and it's still very substantial.Unless you're paying 6c a KW,the Buderus is much more economical.

    excel sheet

You might find this spread sheet helpful in making a comparison between the fuels and different efficiencies. Just fill in the yellow squares.
