Riser covering?

Have a couple of exposed steam risers that I'd like to cover for the sake of insulation (in one case to protect a nearby wall speaker, in another simply to keep more steam condencing in the radiator where I want it) but because they're in the room, the covering needs to be attractive, too. I'd rather not box them in- this would screw up some interesting architectural details. I'm picturing something like a hollow column that could be installed in place around the riser with an inner diameter similar to that of the riser. Anyone ever try anything like this?
Also, any thoughts on insulting around risers in wall cavities? Planning on doing some additional insulating soon with blown cellulose. I'm sure specs will vary with the particular material, but any general restrictions I should know about insulating around steam risers?
Thanks,
Patrick

    insulating risers

To insulate and cover exposed risers, we use fiberglass insulation and wrap it with PVC jacket material (available from any good insulator or supplier). You can them paint or paper over the jacket. If your concealed risers with get in contact with blown insulation, just make sure the insulation can take the heat. Most of it is fire proof but make sure
