The recessed area is for the burner to touch and hold. The screw is either 2 or 2.5 mil. allen.

I am replacing the ceramic disk on the back wall of our Munchkin, because it has disintegrated. It is not exactly a flat disk, because on one side it has a round shallow recessed area.

My question is, what is the point of this design? It looks like it would accommodate a large washer, but there is no washer. Does it matter which side this recess is on? I was going to put in on the front, is there any reason it should go towards the back?

    Many thanks,

The ceramic disk I am talking about goes on the back wall. There is a small hole in the middle of the disk, and a threaded post sticks out of the back wall. You put the disk on the post (so that the post goes through the hole), and then you use a nut to hold the disk in place.

I don't see how the burner could touch the ceramic disk on the back wall, because it would hit the post first.

    disk

That's how it goes. The burner goes right up to it and touches the disk.

    Target wall

Yes it goes towards the front, havent had to replace yet but take it out when I clean the combustion chamber. Have no clue why its there, the depression, and yes I too was looking for the fender washer when I removed the target wall the first time.
