Barometric Damper(s)
on some FA furnaces when doing a plumbing call. Call me old school , but I still think they should have one.
It`s tough to get a steady flame on a windy day without one.

Dave

?
I just came from the second job in a week where I found an oil fired boiler installed without a barometric damper. This one was less that two years old. The homeowner said he asked about it but the guys told him it didn't need one. It's just a standard 80% peerless boiler. I can't believe "it doesn't need one", what say you?0 -
It depends...
I know on the Smith 8 series that it says not needed unless 1)the AHJ says so or 2)excess draft is present....kpc

Here's a NOVEL idea.....
Find the MANUAL that they were kneeling on...and see what Peerless says!
I've seen it covered in Smith and Buderus manuals....but don't ever remember a Peerless manual that didn't specify one.(I believe you can easily obtain one on line if the Neanderthals happened to throw it away with the boiler box) Chris0 -
Peerless
says a barometric is recommended to control draft. It doesn't say required. For the WBV at least.

According to Jim Davis...
...barometrics work better on gas boilers than the standard draft diverters we've been using.
Any opinions there?

damper
ok what i want to know is what r you guys doin with them we get a draft regulator included with every boiler we get so y not install it royboy0 -
Yup,,,
No manual to be found. I just naturally assumed they were full of it because every other boiler I ever installed specified a damper. First Peerless I've seen that I can recall. I'll do some research on it ASAP.0 -
Homeowner,,,
claims there was no damper with the boiler.0 -
LAZY
SORRY I NEVER GOT A NEW BOILER YET THAT DID NOT INCLUDE ONE AND IF I DID I WOULD CALL MY SUPPLIER AND ASK WHERE IT WAS U PAID 4 IT I SAY THEY WERE IN A HURRY AND THOUGHT U WOULD NOT NOTICE I HAVE INSTALLED 5 BOILERS IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS ALL HAVE ONE ROYBOY0 -
Every chimney vented oil fired boiler is required to have a draft regulator in most (if not all) states and provinces of north America. Even if the manufacturer doesn't require one.0 -
I see this once in a while
and we keep barometrics in stock to add to them. It's a no-brainer, especially on those old coal-designed chimneys that can pull pets and small children up to the roof. The stack temp goes right down and the efficiency goes up when you have control of the draft.
