Lochinvar parts
I have always liked working with lochinvar boilers. I don't see them much but they seem to be well made and easy to work with. Also I am impressed with the features and design of the knight boilers. That said I am trying to get my hands on a induced draft motor for a commercial copper fin boiler of theirs. The part is ridiculously expensive. Almost eight bills for a 1/8 hp 110volt fasco motor and blower assembally. I don't even want to tell the customer. Also its hard just to find someone to buy the part from. Is this the way they work. I bid a job to use two of the knights but if this is thier way I will change the boiler to somthing else.0 -

I believe he is trying to tell you to give him the model and serial number and he'll see what he can do. Either that or he thinks you're cute, but I'd go with the first one.0 -

The Fan Inducer
I have sold Raypak, Lochinvars and a few other Copper boiler models with our heating systems. The fan inducer is always that expensive. It is close to to $800 list no matter whose boiler it is. Several years ago I was told it is beacuse that it is a "sealed unit" fan and motor together-no way to buy either/or and that it was part certified by the A.G.A
I have no way to verify that, but thats the way the cookie crumbles.0 -
Granger
Had a motor that mached for voltage and speed. had to tear down the old motor and count the poles to find RPM. After a lot of calls I found more local peaple that offered Lochinvar parts. Everyone wanted $700-800 for it. TOld the customer I would use the Granger moter and if it caused a problem well thanks for playing and spend the $800 any way. I get to put the motor in tomorow so I dont know yet.
A side note. the on site maintenence guy has been messing with the boiler alot and everything else in the mechanicle room. every time I show up I find some controll or somthing that has been changed. Yesterday after noon I was replacing the chilled water pump motor. THe manager came out to tell me the heat didnt work that morning. So I go over to look at the boiler and see the controll cover is off. He set the high limit controll at 100 Deg. I reset the temp and manuel reset switch. after finishing the motor I call the manager and tell her that she needs to keep this guy out of the mechanicle room if she wants anything fixed, and that the next morning I will come in to make sure the boiler runs well under load. She tells me she is getting a lock for the mechanicle room door and she will dgive me the combo. This morning I come in to check the boiler at about seven. I see the low air fault light is on. As I am removing the panel for the compartment where the induced draft motors are I see a big boot print in the middle of the door. The guy got frusterated and kicked it. I have yet to meet him but when I do it will be hard to hold my tongue. It just floors me what how peaple will mess with somthing they have no clue about like its ok. I have billed at least six hours fixing things that he messed with. Just venting one of those days spent shaking my head.
