Steam Boiler Install Cost

While it is general consensus to not discuss price here since variation in local costs are dramatic and especially the quality of installer, that sounds high. Is there asbestos abatement and other related costs because that can run things up? Maybe the contractors really don't want the job. Check under Find a Professional at this site for some good leads on true professionals in the field of hot water and steam. Usually you are much better keeping the steam. If you're in northern Illinois Indiana Iowa, Wisconsin, give me a call as I do travel some, especially for steam.

I purchased a apartment with steam heat 2 years ago and the boiler died last spring. I have recieved bids on replacement and cannot beleive the cost. Is it time to switch to hot water boilers or stay with steam? The replacement cost vary from 40 to 80 thousand dollers in cost for a 1.2 millon BTU. Is this a common price across the USA? Any feedback on this would be greatly apprciated.
  • Stay with steam

if you try to convert to hot-water using the same piping, radiators etc. you run the very real risk of trouble. I've seen cases where converted systems leaked all thru the building. My company does not recommend or perform this type of conversion, and will not work on a system someone else has converted.

    Where are you located?
