TomTom One you download the map you want on your computer than transfer it to the unit. It's even easier than it sounds to do. You would update your unit the same way. I do it about once a month so I have a back up of my saved favorites. The down side is with the new lower prices you would have to purchase the memory card as it no longer comes with the unit.

The Garmin nuvi 660 is the best bang for the buck.0 -
TomTom One
I have a TomTom One, Fits in my pocket and does everything I need it to do. On sale most anywhere for only $250.00. I don't leave home with out it:)0 -
I have the Garmin Nuvi 350. Best $$ I've spent. Has everything one would need with exception of bluetooth. If you want the bluetooth, upgrade to the 360. Other family members have TOM TOM and magellin, all of them like the Garmin better. Very accurate.0 -

Tom Tom
I pick up my second Tom Tom One (don't ask) from Staples priced at $250 with a $50 rebate at the cash register . The first one (don't ask) cost $400 a year before .. Small so it great for the windshield and pocket..
I don't want to read a map any more . I mean I can't read a map anymore ~QQ~ ..0 -
Garmin
I have the Garmin nuvi 360, love it, don't know how I drove without one. Get the Garmin nuvi 350. The bluetooth on the 360 doesn't work well, not worth anything extra.

Not to sound like a broken record, but....
Are any of these the kind that would take a drop-in map of, say, Rome or Madrid ?
