heat pump, geo thermal or solar to add to my existing laars

Any talk about energy savings starts with a smaller hole in your boat. Yes, by all means insulate any piping which has a temperature difference of over 5 degrees to the ambient or which poses a risk of condensation. The idea is to place heat where you want it in a controlled fashion.
Now, as far as heat pumps are concerned, just keep in mind your cascade or sequence of energy transfer. Use the lowest temperature method first before you bring on your higher temperature methods. Seems obvious but you would be surprised how a cooling tower downstream of a boiler hurts efficiency :)
Within this is knowing what sources should run in parallel and what should run in series both thermally and hydraulically. In other words, don't use equipment like pearls on a string where you take a pressure drop hit year-round. Allow parallel piping to take equipment on and off-line without penalizing the entire plant.
Those kinds of things. Diagrams are wonderful tools but you knew that.

adding heat pumps, or geo-thermal or solar to our existing boile
Hello,
We have a commercial building area fed by 5 laars CB 9600 boilers and we would like to add something to make them more energy efficient with a heat pump, geo-thermal pump, solar or other to make these units more efficient. We donot insulate the pipes on our 10' ceiling heating space nor do we insulate in our small boiler rooms! Should we? Any ideas would be helpful since we have two boiler rooms that lead to heat exchangers out on the wharehouse floor and we wouldn't mind saving on our gas bill. Thank you0
