Looked at this today. When 1 or 2 call for heat, both boilers fire, even though one does 1&2 and the other 3&4. When 4 calls, the valve opens and it only gets heat if 1 or 2 happen to be calling. Will not fire boiler. 3 does nothing at all. left boiler kettles bad and moans when at temp. Will be repiping soon. These are the same guys who brought you the other beauty pictured...

    Enjoy, Tim

Can anyone suggest a good 2-stage boiler control? I am putting these guys in parallel on the same pri loop, and a P/S setup, with the ZV's off that. I will also be using a differential pressure bypass.

    Thanks, Tim

Tim, go wit ha tekmar 262 and a taco zvc relay for the zone valves. The Tekmar has domestic hot water on priority so if you add an indirect later on

Is that a taco zone valve controller? Have not heard of that one...I typically like pumps, but the ZV's are there already.

    Are those hour meters

on the ZV's? By far the most confusing zone valve you will ever wire :)

You have one of the best tekmar reps around right there in Salt Lake. Mike or Dave at Lundquist Sales.

You need to meet the team at Hydronic Supply LLC at 2195 s West Temple. Hands down the most knowledgable supplier in the valley. Dave Hill, Bill McDonald, or Frank. They know copper boilers very well :) I believe they are tekmar dealers also.

It is a taco zone valve control. Makes the job look nicer and you can wire it up to 6 zones with 1 control. They also come with a priority switch.

I shop a lot at Lundquist for danfoss & tekmar ( now at 2425 S Progress Dr.), and Gritton for B&G. My local Laars shop is Midgley Heuber. This install is a total nightmare. I think having both boilers on one pri loop is the ticket, especially having them staged. Both are oversized, and having the larger do most of the work, and the second fill in at peak demand is the best bet.

    Second boiler vent

    Hi Tim,

I'll second the suggestion to use the Tekmar 262 with these boilers. Call myself or Bill at the factory if you have any questions on the wiring to the boilers.

And please take the old Mini Therm I draft hood off of the Mini Therm II integral draft diveter (the second boiler in the photo)and replace it with a piece of pipe, and move the vent damper down where it belongs.

You may also want to consider type B vent for the installation. I'm surprised that the vents don't condense.

    Sincerely,

Paul Bock, Laars Heating Systems Co.

I have sent Bill Marchant an email with photos regarding this install. I did put in my estimate to remove the draft hood and fix the vent. There are signs of the right boiler condensing. See photo. There is white powder and rusty flakes falling out of the old draft hood. I really like these mini therms, but they MUST be piped right.
