Chevron Ad

an interesting article in todays Washington Post about the upcoming Ad coming out this weekend by Chevron/BP Oil concerning the future of energy. The ad will be 2.5 minutes long and take up the entire commercial break in between segments on 60 minutes. Usually time for 5 commercials. The ad cost over 10 million to make and has high quality soundtrack by a movie composer and high level actor voice overs. The main message is about energy and working with the newly fuzzy/friendly oil giants to arrive at energy solutions. BP no longer means British petroleum, it means "Beyond Petroleum" Casting aside my usual cynics view and consipracy paranoia, I must say a BP gas station in Nearby Olney MD has about 50 PV panels on the canopy over the gas pumps, that are supposed to run the whole pumping part of the gas station. Big up front investment for a little long term payback. Looks like they are into the alternative energy thing. The long ad will air first on 60 minutes and eventually be broken up into shorter ads for other shows like "Heroes," where the viewers are more likely to get into the spirit on working on the energy solution. One show that gets no Chevron/BP ads is "Desperate Housewives." Apparently prime time soap watchers are not serious or spirited enough to care about such issues. WW
