That drop header was a blast to do. And adding in the zoning for baseboard heat was another challange to make it all that much more fun.
As to the feed line, I followed the diagram on page 23 for the Megasteam. Not sure why but it show's the feed being piped in on the return.

    megasteam

I finally finished the close boiler piping and got my camera to work good enough to take some decent pic's. If anyone see's anything they don't like, let me know. Alway's open for suggestions...

Thank you Burnham for an excellent boiler!! It was a pleasure to install!!!

    Looks great Tom.

Only thing I see is that the feed line should go on the other side of the Hartford loop, per the drawings.

    Aren't drop headers fun? Chris

    Just one

Question : Why the additional Flo-checks? I am assuming those are Grundfos 15-58's with built in FC.

    Looks great btw !!!!

honestly cause I forgot all about the internal flow check...:( We had planned to use taco circ's but thing's changed mid stream and I never thought of it. I think it's an age thing.
    Thanks for looking it over...

Man , that is one sweet install . It was worth the wait to see the finished product . I was gonna post some pics of our Thursday steamer , but the quality of work I've seen here lately from you , Clammy and Jamie , I gotta wait a few weeks at least .

Piping the feed directly into the boiler is a non-issue . It's the way we've been doing it for hundreds of steamers , and I haven't taken out one I've installed in over 20 years .

Would there be any adverse effect to the system if the header and return were shortened just a little so they didn't stick out past the boiler ? I see the washer and dryer are very close to the boiler and you did all you could to move it as far away as possible . Believe me , I don't want to be critical of this great install . It ain't our fault where homeowners put their appliances .

Keep up the excellent work Tom .

    Ron,

I didn't think it was an issue but the old timer that I learned from was always pointing it out to me in the instructions.(His theory was to mix the feed water with the return water avoiding cold directly into the boiler) I haven't yet had the pleasure of doing a Megasteam boiler but am anxiously awaiting for it. Hope all is well. Chris
  • We're waiting

to do out first Mega also . I hear you about mixing cold water before the HL first . But it's a rare thing to see it piped like that in the homes we work in . Maybe one out of 20 . And the majority of steamers we replace are still running .

Everything's good with me . Busy as ever . Boiler a day for the past month , I'm taking a week off beginning Oct . How are things with you ?

with a first-class boiler. Can you refresh our memory as to what was there before?

I hope you can get some fuel-savings figures!

    Hey Chris

Other than it being a heavy boiler, it's an awsome system. As to the feed, I opted to match Burnham's directions just to follow them to a T being this is my first. I would have to ask Glenn if they did it for a reason or just needed to show it someplace..Thank's for looking it over though..

    Thank you Ron

Compliment's from pro's like you make this all worthwhile. Although I have to admit, I had a blast doing it. Just no one tell my boss..;)As to the header, I had checked with Burnham on that and they didn't want it shortened anymore. The washer and dryer are soon to leave that location so it's not to big of a deal.

It was awsome to start the system, I boiled it off for about an hour and ran it for steam. Not a sound to be heard.. Thanks for all the help with the coil btw. I only have it running for the indirect but it has handled it with ease..

Thanks Ron, you guy's set the bar and the rest of us chase it..

    Thanks

Thanks Steamhead. I attached a pic of the system we removed. As to the usage, although it will be easy to follow since this is my manager's house, it will not be completely accurate. They had added 4 room's on to the second floor of the house although I'm betting it still improves...

are those three zones piped out of the coil??? ive never seen that before. I havent done much work with steam. How well does that work? do u need a particular type of coil? how much are u allowed to run of a coil?
