under the shower floor. Add the subfloor r value and you have quite a bit of insulation to run through. better go 6" on center.
I see a product like that being used a lot around here by tile setters. But it is only 1/2" thick. Maybe yours is a sloped shower pan product?

Anyone used...
this stuff before? It is a tile backer board that needs no vapor barrier. I am at a job w/ this being used as a shower base, it is 1.5 inches thick, and looks like styrofoam sandwiched between thin cement board. ...aka an insulator. I am doing joist trac undeneath... kpc
