Nickle safe Ice Machine Cleaner is the way I do it...along with the magic wand.
I don't have the name brand, but I can get it to you in the morning....I keep a 1 gallon bottle in the shop now, and replace it as used. The directions are on the jug, but I find that a couple of blasts with the wand after a good coil heating...tank empty... get things moving alot better than just throwing the cleaner in there. Chris

The owner's manual details the procedure which uses phosphoric acid (ice machine cleaner.)
Is the boiler mate manual on the amtrol website?

Boilermate cleaning
I cleaned my boilermate when it started to produce less hot water. I followed Amtrols directions and used Phosphoric (ice machine cleaning solution) acid exactly as instructed. When i was finished the hot water oputput was like it was the day it was first installed. Do yourself a favor, don't get creative, the manufacturers instructions are the best route to follow.0 -
That is why...
That is one of the reasons why I stopped using the Boiler Mate. Along with lousy support in my area. Warranty issues and a bunch of leakers.
Tank in tank will be less likely to have that problem. Smooth coils like the Super-Stor also are good.

Kevin.....
....what is a "magic wand?"
Starch0 -
That is a
Piece of copper tubing with a ball valv attached with a garden hose adpt. This allows us to "wash off" the coil from the hot water tapping located at the top of the tank. After a bath of ice maker cleaner, the coil is then "preasure" washed with the magic wand to further clean it.
