open a door and walk thru for no other reason than might as well try this door". Suddenly youre working a job thats O.K., and all of a sudden you've got a career.
Good for you, sounds like you've found something that gives your life meaning. Thats huge and many people never find that.
I took two years of college and realized it wasnt the school for me. Not the mechanical satisfaction I needed. I quit to try somewhere else and landed a job with a Plumbing and Heating Company. As they say, the rest is history.
Don't worry how you got here, just be happy you did. One of the tough parts of this trade is finding the information you need. Its out there you just have to work at finding it.
By the way if youre in Colorado then you have access to one of the best teachers there is. I think Mark Eatherton is still teaching at Red Rock Community College. If not he'll send you in the right direction.
Good for you for finding your way.

Why college?Other Options!!!
I remember when I was eighteen and just getting ready to graduate high school. in my part of colorado you either went to college, or became a coal miner. i tried both and neither of them worked. drinking beer at 9:00 in the morning is only fun for so long, and seeing the sun on a regular basis is something i definitely have more respect for now. After both of these options were exercised I was at a loss. What do I do now. I was lucky enough to get involved in this trade. The first six months were tough, i had the attitude that this was just a paycheck and not a career. I didn't understand anything. For my first three months i swear i didn't know what a boiler was. Eventually the time came when my employer started demanding that i think for myself. that's when it all hit. I finally started thinking about things. Now i can't imagine a profession that allows the creativity, science, professionalism, and PRIDE such as this. Excuse me for running on but the point i'm trying to get across is that the introduction to this field changed my life and gave me a future that I didn't think was there.
I joined the union about 4 months ago after about a year and a half of working in this profession. All i can say is that I wish i would have done it earlier. I'm not pushing union by any means but i do believe that this opportunity for an education in one of the most pertinent fields known to society today is one that should not be overlooked. To make things simple, I wish that coming out of high school i had another option. Here in western colorado there isn't much. maybe i'm just being resentful because i didn't graduate college, but i don't think that's it. i wouldn't change my life for anything. I just wish that there were more technical schools available. the extent of the pipe trades are endless and the lack of education available are extremely minimal. Open some eyes and advertise that a good life and a good salary are only commensurate to what you are willing to put in.0
