needed, is my mantra. It's expensive, costs you some heat moving ability, need maintenance, and seems to find the smallest of leak paths.
Snowmelts and remote jobs or cabins, for sure.
I do like to use the Rhomar 922 hydronic treatments in all my systems, however. My typical systems usually require a gallon or less.
It's a film provider to seal the aluminum, a ph buffer, O2 scavanger, and a dispersant (great for older rusty systems). It great for todays multi metal systems.
The ph is a particularly important number to watch with aluminum heat exchangers. As the installation manual will indicate. I believe Weil now approves Rhomar products in the installation manual.

Weil Mclain install
I am installing a Weil Mclain ultra boil. Does anyone who installed them in the past have any things to watch out for?
Thank you, Lou0 -
Make sure
you use a back up wrench when you tighten on the S&R connections. It's easy to crack those brass compression fittings at the boiler block.
A lot of installers like to put some pigtail wires on those terminal blocks which will be hidden behing the flue and intake pipe. I've moved the terminal strips to the front compartment on some.
I like to see them flushed with a multi metal hydronic cleaner. protect that aluminum HX as best as possible.
If you use glycol be sure it is a high quality multi metal type. I think the Rhomar and NoBurst al are two of the best. Use DI water to blend glycols or buy the pre-blended.
I like to wall mount them IF it is a concrete wall. They tend to vibrate a stud wall, especially the ones with high head circs.
It's nice to use the bottom connections for an indirect tank, and the top ones for heating. This is a very nice feature on that boiler.
That thick gasketed jacket provides a whisper quiet boiler

Hot Rod do you use glycols in freeze applications only or do you also use it for corrosion control of the aluminum HX?
Thank you, Lou

Piping...
is very important... they MUST be pipied exactly has shown in the manual.. P/S....if there isn't adequate flow through the boiler it simply will not perform well or at all.
Need to change some of the parameters for the reset to work correctly, email me when you have it running and I'll walk you through that. Are you running a high or low temp. system or a combo??? Indirect??? Don't oversize, that thing runs the best and most eff. on the low fire end of the scale, size it to barely keep up on the coldest day.
Guess that's it for now, install as directed and you'll be a happy camper :-)

On Ultras I try to
isolate any area needing anti freeze with a heat exchanger. It is worth the extra expense than to have a system full of chemicals. Also you must check gas pressures and do a full combustion test. The instructions give specific parameters.

Floyd, I was reading about the P/S, I found it strange that the inlet and outlet pipe is 1"npt but in the manual they tell you to use 1 14" tubing for the boiler loop? I did over size the boiler, to try to plan for future expansion. I spoke to Weil and they said I might have to adjust parameter 13 (Max fan speed). What parameter have you had to change in the past? How would you set the Outdoor reset parameters 6 & 7 for southern NJ. I am running hi temp base board.
Thank you for the help
