Got in a heated discussion today about proper water heater control differential. Well, not really heated but it was a debate. What are some Wallie opinions?

water heater differential
I think that whatever works is the best solution. As long as the temperature doesn't fluctuate a lot and the demand is met, set it wherever. Every water heater's recovery is different. This makes a good argument for installing a mixing valve on every water heater. Most controls have a built in 10 degree differential, and I don't remember ever having to go back to adjust differential.0
