Bio-Fuel blend?

B5 or B20 it should not really need anything special...more than that the pump seals have issues w/ leaks.

    Bio-fuel blend?

I recently had a customer ask me if I could recommend a light commercial boiler/burner around 750,000 - 850,000 btu that was approved to use a biofuel blend instead of straight # 2 oil? Any recommendations would be a help.

    But

UL has not approved bio yet, so it is technically illegal to use it where Code requires UL approval. Even if Code only requires the burners themselves to be UL approved, UL only gives their approval for use with UL-approved fuels. And in such areas, if a tech works on a system using bio, he or she is technically working outside of his/her license.

Since most areas have Codes that require UL approval, you can see where this is going. I'm not against bio, but if something goes wrong and the lawyers get involved......

    but it is....

mostly #2...they add plenty of additives to heating oil. Nothing like lawyers/lawsuits to slow down progress. kpc

The only company I have heard has approved their burners for Bio is Beckett, I think it is 5%

    Most of the oil

heat equipment folks have approved their pieces for up to 5% bio. However, UL has NOT approved the new ASTM bio-fuel standard for their listed burners. Might want check w/ your insurance carrier before putting bio in your tank.
