SuperDAD just not SuperMAN

As I lay on the table getting an MRI on my back this morning I thought about the changes that a 53-year-old man goes through, moving from infallibility to vulnerability. I might have a herniated or ruptured disc -- from trying to do too much physical labor. I sometimes wish I could be back in my 20-something body, which was hijacked many years ago by middle age. But I am grateful that I am happy and healthy enough to still be a good father to my children. That's what is important.
Hug your kids and keep them safe. The aches and pains are just part of the whole package.

Here is to hoping
it is just soft tissue gently worn (not that it is in any way less painful).
Your back may ache but your heart is in the right place- get well soon."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"

I feel for you
Age is a mean mistress...Spent the last 2 weeks recovering from ripping my back muscles where they join my hip..
did 2 furnace and A/C's...then I am at home on sunday cleaning the pool deck..picked up a friggin pool noodle and found muself admiring the sky and unable to move my legs!!
MRI and xrays showed I didn't slip a disc and sever my nerves, but it was a scary day in emerg for me.
2 weeks so far, and I can walk and even bend over..
just one wrong move at the right time nd whamo!! time off
Take it easy and recover 100% before tackling anything..my doc says no work, no picking up anything over 10# for a MONTH, then we'll see..oh well..thanks to my buds that are doing my scheduled work for me on their off time as I am out until likely Oct.

It is a rupture
Now I have to talk with a surgeon about my options. At least I don't do the physical work like my Wallie friends and my livelihood will not be impacted. I definitely feel for you guys (and gals) who depend on their backs to be strong. Thanks for the nice words, too.0 -
Ohhh my Ahhhhkin back!
i've got 1 bad disc and 1 so so L4-L5 and above. Consider rehab and and spinal decompression therapy before surgery. I was scheduling a date for surgery but then backed out. that was 5 years ago and I do ok. I'm still on the south side of 40 though and I don't do much physical HVAC stuff anymore.

John...I agree with Joel. Don't rush into surgery. I had a herniated disc L4-L5 that responed to decompression and accupunture. That was 18 years ago. Good luck.0 -
