Brad,

I'm wanting to pass througha two-hour ceiling. It's hard to explain the exact situation. I'll see if I can get the PE to go along with it. Thanks, GW

allows steel sheetmetal to account for a one-hour rating by default although not explicitly. The reason is that a one-hour partition can have a continuously duct pass through it without a fire damper. A transfer duct would have a damper. 1.5 hour ratings and up you need a damper. Not applicable to your venting situation, just some background.

I would enclose it after testing in a continuous 2-hour enclosure, essentially extending the partition rating along the vent system. You could also use Pabco or Fyre-Wrap (which everyone says is expensive but nobody tells you the price :)

We used Fyre-Wrap on a smoke control system to protect the fan and dampers as it passed from the enclosure to the outside.
