when one of those precious moments........

.....with your kid(s) is going to happen. On Sturday, my son, Stephen, and I made the drive to go see Steve Wieland and pick up some stuff for work. On the way back, we stopped at this little aviation museum at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station. What a great time! My son loved it. There were a dozen or so veterans from the various conflicts volunteering that day and they provided us with a history of almost every plane/helicopter there. After we got home from the trip, we spent most of the rest of the day on the Internet looking up information about what we saw.

The one picture is Stephen standing in front of a german fighter called the Messerschmitt Me 262. Fortunately, for the Allies, this plane was developed near the end of the war.

    Hug your kids.

    What kid (of any age)

would not love a place like that! I had no idea there were any Me-262's left.
In 1996 I almost met Adolf Galland, one of Germany's leading aces at an airshow in Colorado. Never got close, he was that popular. A real gentleman said those who met him and respected him as one of the last true knights of the sky of that era.

I mention Herr Galland as he once remarked, upon flying the 262 for the first time that he felt as if he were "pushed by angels". A pioneer of jet flight.

You are building indelible memories. Good for both of you!

Great place, just a shame the base behind it will be closing at the end of September. The original owners of the site, the Pitcairn family, started saving this planes years ago. Kept many from the scrap pile.
