My worst fear -

Glen
Glen Member Posts: 855
This evening turned the laptop back on - and it booted up in a peculiar way. Wrong screen saver, a note from Seattle thanking me for updating to XP, Google asking for my preferences, Dell telling me that updates were available - WOW! And then checking email - no messages, none - gone!, No contacts, no favourites, nada! My life flashed before me. I did the sensible thing. I ignored it! Cracked a bud - and rebooted - life as I know it - is good. All things are again normal - but does that ever give one a scare! Worst part is that looking at various logs - I have no indication of what happened.
I shall be making backups tomorrow! I have a mini satellite drive around here somewhere on this desk.

    Back Glenn

    Back up I say!

And as they in Chicago " back up and back often ".

And the most important, " Ask not what your computer can back up for you, ask what you can back up for your computer"

    Glenn,

I have been there and done that.

I now backup, and backup my backups, literally.

Remember the words of the great Abraham Lincoln,

"Four score and seven backups ago,,,,"

    Thumb Drive

I carry 2 of them, a 2GB and a 4GB on my key chain. I recently saw an 8GB. Use these to back up almost daily. Plus, I have important files/specs/digarms with me where ever I am. Something you may want to consider. You can get a 2GB drive for under $40 now.
