I knew from the beginning there had to be a reason for someone to pipe a copper...or any boiler...like this.(pic 1&2) He was just following the prime example of the previous boiler expert shown in pic 3&4. The rest are the system, note the useless check valve on the 'manifold' and the taco position. I will pipe both separate, and move the circs & do them right. B&G circs will be re-used as all run great and the loops are diverter t and LONG....

  • Got your work

cut out for ya there Tim! I guess(as bad as this is), the B&Gs are for the zones, but what`s the idea of the 3rd circ in the common return-line to the boiler?
    BTW-What make are those diverter-tees?

The 3rd circ is the totally stupid part of these installs. It was obviously provided for a bypass, as shown on page 13 of the installation manual, but these guys have no capacity for how water flows through a pipe, thus a spring check valve on a single pipe leading to a manifold...no point at all. I think the diverters are crane, but I need to take a close look. Flow travels toward the belled end. Some are close t's, and some are not. All zones migrate to others...BIG mess but certainly salvageable. These systems will be beautiful and will outlive me by far after I re-pipe them...

    \"totally stupid\"

is the reason you said there had to be.

And as our friend Firedragon would say- "You can't fix stupid!"

But if it's mechanical, it can be fixed. Let us know how much less gas they use after you're done with it!

This sign says it all...the Peerless was apparently a father-son team that between the two of them came up with the Peerless install, that led to the Laars install. The dumb leading the illiterate. I'll post better quality photos of the diverters and look for a name, as well as afters.

  • A draft diverter?

Well,,fix er-up Tim!! Guess we should watch what we say,,they may be lurking this site for much needed pointers!
I`ll be looking forward to your finish pics.

BTW-How`s the search going(miners), anywhere near your locale?

Those poor boilers will be top notch when done. The miners are way south of here, but in all news media. My heart goes out to those who work in mines or submarines who have no escape when the stuff hits the fan. It really does not look good, and the seismologist who looks at the tape disagrees with the mine owner on whether it was a earthquake or not.

    I like

I like the fill valve hung on pex. Was it really quicker, or only half fast ?
