Oil Burner not kicking on - Help

Hi Big Ed,
There are no fumes in the firebox.
How do I bleed the oil line? I bleed the filter (at the oil tank) but not sure how to do it for the line going into the burner.
"Pump could have taken a dump" - What does this mean? Pump on the burner?

Oil Burner not kicking on - Help

    Homeowner here.
I ran out of oil yesterday (steam system that also provides our hot water)and the system shutdown. I had more oil delivered but now the burner isn't kicking on. I replaced both the filter (oil tank) and the nozzle (going from the burner into the firebox)for safety sake and also adjusted the electrodes but the burner still isn't kicking in (not seeing "sparks" in the firebox from the elecrodes). Any ideas?

    First Off.

Any fumes or cloud in the fire box ? If so your getting oil to the nozzle but no ingintion..Spark could be shorting out( bad adjust ,cracked insulaters or a coked up end cone) Transformer could be disconected or took a dump...

No fumes ...If you have no oil to the nozzle...Bleed the oil supply , check the gaskets on what you disturbed . Pump could have taken a dump...

Have oil to nozzle line..bad nozzle or plugged nozzle adp.

It could be a lot of things. By trying to get it going you may just be pumping oil into the chamber.

Before things go very wrong, save yourself the time and aggravation and call an expert. Click on the "Find a Professional" link at the top of the page if you need help finding one.

    Bleeder

On the pump is a bleeder . It looks like a automotive brake line bleeder on drum or caliber . Open it up with a 3/8" wrench and start the burner . Oil and air would spit out .Bleed it in to a can until oil is clear and clean, tighten up . It should fire.
