    Splitting Up Steam Radiator

I've got some steam radiators that I want to put in my house to replace some broken/ugly ones. The replacement ones are too long, so I want to take some sections off, or split 1 long one into two. Is this feasible? Looks simple enough, there is a threaded rod with a nut on the upper part that I can either cut or muscle off, but on the bottom there dosn't seem to be a rod to clamp the whole thing together. Also can any section be an end section? I know I'd have to find a suitable fitting to connect to the pipe.

    Thanks

The end section would have to have legs of course and being that this rad seems to have push nipples there are several ways to split them apart safely depending upon their condition. Search the forum and you'll fins some ways to split such as wreck bars and oak wedges(safest).

Pictures would help, but if there is only one threaded rod at the top of the radiator and none down low where the sections connect you are probably looking at threaded nipples not push nipples, and the likelhood of getting those to come apart is nil...

    Hi Phil

Thanks for the reply. I cannot seem to post a jpg, some message about wrong file type, I cut them down to smallest possible size, whatever.

Anyway I looked at the rads again and there is definately no bolt on the bottom. I'm going to give it a shot, nothing to loose, combination of determined/fanatic home owner, WD-40 and massive leverage. These threaded nipples between sections, are they untightened with that internal nipple wrench, the one with the steps, and I would have to break loose each section one by one?
