HWH riser vents

automatic air vents available, I use these H/B vents , and a Q122A1001 "safe waste connector" can be added to pipe-it to a safer drainage point. But remember , adding any auto-vent to an area where positive pressure is not maintained WILL allow them to "suck" more air into the system also.

Dave

automatic vent that would not damage apartment

We're encountering trapped air in the top floor circuits of hot water heating systems. In a couple of cases the owner vents the air manually to get a couple of days worth circulation. I wanted to install a regular small vent such as we use to vent the boiler itself but I'm concerned about water damage to the room. What is a good quality vent that is suitable for this application ? Although other factors are causing the problem I feel like a vent on the top is a good extra.

    Venting at top of risers.

I believe you've answered my question as to why top riser vents are'nt used. The risers of subject top out a good 50 feet over the boiler. The hwh circulator does not operate constantly.
    Thanks

    Treating the Symptom

    Not the disease, I suspect.

As Dave noted, any vent without pressure can breathe both ways. You did note "other causes", so let's make sure that you are:

    1) Pumping away from your expansion tank.

    2) Have adequate pressure in your system (about 4 psig at the top plus another 0.433 lbs. for every foot of height.

    3) A good air separator is an option at the boiler and upstream of the circulator. Once you get the air out this should not be necessary.

Do at least #1 and #2 above and you should not have to add vents or at least use them more than twice.

    And

the system should be set up to "pump away" from the air separator/tank connection.

Then kiss your air problems goodbye.
