fluttering aquastat

if it`s oil, sounds like your describing a <A HREF="http://customer.honeywell.com/honeywell/ProductInfo.aspx/RA116A1055"> stack relay </A>, not an aquastat?<BR><BR>Dave

even tho heating season is a while away...

Ive got a problem with my aquastat on my apt's old boiler. who knows how old this thing is, but last season whenever i turn the tstat up it fires up and after 5 seconds the contacts flutter. itll flutter then eventually stop. then start up, flutter etc. its an oil fired boiler, and the aquastat mod# slips my mind but its the aquastat where the swirly metal probe goes into the flue (pull to reset the points).
I havent encountered this problem before but what could it be....insuficiant voltage? bad contactor in the aquastat? anybody have any suggestions? the landlord has his own people to look at these things (i dont have to worry bout a thing) and when they come everything starts up like a charm(go figure we have all seen this). the only way to get some heat is to sit down there with a couple beers till the house warms up enough to get to sleep.

    aquastat?

Sounds like a "stack relay" to me, also. When they chatter like that(flutter) time to replace.
