Very sorry to hear of your loss. My mom died at 52 my wife was pregnant with her first grandchild and that was probably the worst as she was looking forward to it.

Thank you all very much for your support, it is needed at this difficult time. The hardest part for me is that Emily and I are expecting our first child in January, much like Joel was, this would have been his first granchild...

    Ray-

Take a hug, big guy. 51 is WAY too young and especially now with your first-born on the way. I wish there was something one could say or do to take away what must be an awful, incredible ache.

Please tell us about him when you feel like it. He obviously raised one hell of a craftsman.

I am so sorry for your loss.

    In sympathy

All so close to Father's Day, all to recognize the huge importance of all our fathers, all to have it changed so abruptly by the tragic loss of your father, and all so early, Ray, I am with you in deepest sympathy.

I think fathers are key at building confidence in all of us, the true trust in our own abilities that propel us into life. Praying for their confidence is in many ways easier than it all was to plainly ask for it during their lifetime - that said, boy do we miss that opportunity once it is taken from us and boy is it painful to finally understand what exactly we had. Prayers are answered, and fathers keep responding to what we ask from them.

Indeed, Ray, just because... I will keep your father and your family in my prayer. Best wishes for strength and take good care of yourself, your wife and future child, life goes on.

    Sorry for your loss...

Ray Sr will still have his first grandchild in January, and your kids will know your father through what you tell them and then they can keep his story alive with their own kids or grandkids.

You're all in our thoughts in these trying times.

My kids know that my dad whistled while he worked... I just wish I could replay it for them as accurately as I can hear it inside me heart and head.

My heart goes out to you man. I have walked a mile in those shoes too.

I sat with dad and mom at our church's Sunday afternoon service January 8th, 1984. We chatted after church, mentioned a few things that needed to get done on Monday, as I recall, and each went to our own homes. It was the last conversation I had with him. He had a heart attack about an hour later and died. It was his 50th birthday only a week before that day, I was 26.

Dad's are like rocks, always there for support, always a benchmark for you to measure from, always there to talk to even if they don't say a lot in return. They're not supposed to leave before we have everything figured out for ourselves.

There's still a hole in my life that can never be filled. I have learned to walk around it though. You will too.

I don't think we've ever met but I'd be glad to talk with you if you'd like. The office phone is 231-826-3535. Doesn't matter if you call tomorrow, 6 months, or a year from now. The offer stands.

I'll be thinking of you and praying that you find the comfort, peace and support you need.

    God Bless you

I know it is a very tough time for you and I am so sorry. My Dad died at 61 in 2004. It is a very big hole that gets put in your heart and I can't say it ever gets filled. Just remember all of the good times and all of those life lessons your Dad gave to you.

I pray that God will give you and your family, peace and tranquility, Darin

I am really touched by everyone who has responded, it really means alot to me.

Brad, since you asked, I would love to share a little bit of who my father was with everyone.

My father was a ford mechanic his whole life. Did transmissions mostly. I will never forget the times I spent with him in the garage. He could fix anything, and was never the least bit afraid of fixing something new. He also was a 'Jack of all trades' he could do tile, carpentry, plumbing, anything really. He was an avid motorcyclist. Did drag racing for many years back in the late 70's. Got my brother and I into riding dirtbikes very young. I was 9 My brother was 7. We all started racing in 1997, did it for 6 years. He devoted almost every weekend to driving us 4 hours away on a Sunday morning to hit the track. I only hope that I can be half the father he was.
