Dropped Header Question
Is there a minimum that the dropped header needs to be above the waterline in the boiler?0 -
The risers from the boiler
typically need to be 24 inches at minimum above the maximum permitted boiler waterline, and I'd go higher if possible. This is to help keep water from reaching the header.
The header itself can be lower than that, I'd keep it maybe a foot above the waterline.

I have dropped several to almost the top of the jacket with excellent results.first bring riser up to required dimension.0 -
Thanks
I was thinking that it was not that big an issue, but wanted to make sure. I did my first dropped header last winter, took a lot of convincing of the boss but he finally caved in, yesterday he said we got another header to replace and I think you better try that thing you did last time it worked out great. I will have 2 24 inch risers out of the boiler and dropping about six inches so the risers have close to 30" to the waterline and the header should be about 20" above the waterline. This is on a five or six section 8 series Smith that was installed 5 plus years ago with one riser made from copper. Thank you Bob and Frank.0 -
Dropped Headers
As we now show in our Megasteam I&O manual and as indicated already by others, that vertical rise from the NWL needs to be at least 24". Hope this helps.
