Mixing galvanized steel and black steel pipe?

Don't mix. In two different systems now I've found sections of galvanized that were added to black iron systems. Both times, the galvanized pipe is terribly scaled (nearly cloggied is more like it) while the black is only slightly roughened.

Mixing galvanized steel and black steel pipe?
I need to replace some 1-1/4" black steel pipe and have some galvanized steel pipe available. Is there a problem mixing galvanized and black steel pipe?0 -
mixing pipe
It's called electrolosys and you should avoid mixing dissimilar metals in any system. Spring for some new pipe.0 -
Water, boiler fluids, gas, steam, oil??
water, probably not for rust potential.
Boiler closed loop, not a big deal.
NFPA allows it for gas and LP.
Steam and oil, better ask the pros here on that one. I'd say not.
Bottom line... if you are concerned get the black cut and threaded at a local plumbing shop :)Trade them for the galvie.
